Hello. My name is Rachael Davies and I'm currently in my second year of university studying Primary Education. At the moment I am beginning to think about my dissatation, and at the end of May I have to hand in a 3000 word lit review. I've decided to base it on circle time. My question is on the lines of :

Does the use of circle time assist the development of Foundation Phase children’s listening skills?
    Either that Or Speaking skills?

I was wondering whether you have any information on this or any guidance you could give me. It would be of great help.
    Thanks,
    Rachael Davies

    Hi Rachael
Thank you for getting in touch. I am not an expert in this field but I am an enthusiastic manager of information for Jenny and have also taught in primary school. Although I am not able to answer your question directly, and you will find that some of the research into circle time and its benefits is a bit patchy, there is some research that might be of interest to you. Two of the reasons that you might find the information patchy is that more money needs to be spent on research (in my humble opinion!) and that some of the benefits or potential changes are very subtle and hard to measure.

We have put a large amount of information on the Quality Circle Time website which would be a good place to start looking. There is a large research and reports section - some of the research is there in full, for other pieces there is just the abstract but also there is information on how to get hold of the research from Bristol University, where most of the research was carried out. In addition, we have a large news section, a questions and answers section and many article written by Jenny Mosley. Hopefully you will find it easy to access all these sections from the home page (www.circle-time.co.uk).

Hopefully other people will add to this discussion - does anyone have any further information for Rachael?

Best wishes for now and good luck with starting the literature review.
